  11. I am now using a Black & Decker under the counter” coffeemaker and it bowls water over occassionally. I am handicapped and cannot lift my arm high enough to pour water in a regular coffee maker so therefore I have to have an “under the counter” coffee maker. Also, before I purchased this one, I purchased Model # OD460 and I was so disgusted with it that I throwed the whole complete coffee maker in the trash. It not only lost the water all over the counter top but the coffee did not stay warm more than 20 minutes in the carafe.

  12. i have a unit with de on plug please advise

    charles la greca

  13. Have Model ODC #440 Code # on end of Plug 610 DE

  14. We have a new (still in the box) cat#ODC450
    Date code is DE638
We also have one on our boat but can’t check the
    numbers for 3-4 weeks.
    Dick Frakes

  15. It said that they ae sending me a white basket for my 450. Is this the WHirte backet with the stainless front like I currentally have.

  16. I am highly upset! In order to get the model designation I had to take down the coffee maker. Once I had that and registered with it and the complete date code I got a message telling me that that date code is not part of the recall. As you know the Safety Recall Notice states that date code ending in “DE” or “XO” may be covered.

  17. In regards to odc440 recall I reported this recall at least a year ago and receaved a white replacement for a black pot. When I notified you for a black one I never heard from you again. I put the whole thing in the trash and vowed to never buy a black and decker again. I can not beleave It has taken this long to recall this product.

  18. I have a Spacemaker Model ODC440 with a DE on the plug. They tell me that it is not covered. I complained about the basket overflowing a year ago and was told they would send a new basket. In a few days I got a package from you with a new carafe. I ended up just taking the Serve-a-cup plug clear off but then I had to remove the carafe lid also. I was tired of it pouring coffee all over the counter!!! I had a Spacemaker previously that I really liked, but they changed the design for the worst.

  19. I have tried calling the number above and all I ever get is an automated reply that tells me our coffeepot is not covered. and then “Have a good day. Goodbye.” Where can I actually talk to a person??

  20. To All-
I sympathize with all the difficulties you are having getting service from Black and Decker.

  21. I JUST FILLED OUT RECALL FORM DESPITE NEVER HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE BASKET OVERFLOWING. THE GLASS CARAFE BROKE DURING A CHISTMAS ‘08 DINNER PARTY. COFFEE EVERYWHERE, ON ME, THE FLOOR, THE DESSERT TABLE. I CALLED FOR A REPLACEMENT CARAFE AND FINALLY GOT IT FOR $36.00! THEN, THE BOTTOM JUST FELL OUT OF THAT ONE. I WENT TO BLACK AND DECKER, RT 501 TANGER MALL NEAR CONWAY, NC TO BUY ANOTHER SPACEMAKER, THE WHOLE THING, ONLY TO BE TOLD, “SORRY,THEY’VE BEEN RECALLED AND HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED REPLACED BY THE NEW MODELS ON THE SHELF AND THERE ARE NO CARAFES.” GREAT. NOW WHAT DO I DO WITH MY NEW BASKET AND NO CARAFE. HELP! ANYONE! CAT# ODC440B (BLACK) I’LL PAY FOR IT!

  22. I have your white ODC450 coffee maker. I have had one pot crash to the floor when the coffee basket overflowed. (It is a 827XO model on the plug.

Please tell me what to do with this coffee pot so that I don’t get burned.

    Sincerely Dr. Thomas R. Miloch

  23. I am very disappointed with our Spacemaker Drip Coffeemaker. We have always bought Black and Decker and never had any problems. Now with this coffeemaker we have hot water coming out of the basket constantly when turned on. Also the bottom of the place where the carafe is looks like rust or whatever the product could be is deteriorating! Please advise me on what to do. John and Rita Eppard,

  24. After reading the above complaints and concerns I only have one other thing to add to it and that is in addition to all the other stuff, the white plastic lip of the actual carafe has leaked coffee since day one. I just made it a habit to always pour over the sink but I have to say, it gets old and its wasteful. Love the spacesaver design, but overall, its got alot of issues. Back to the drawing board…

  25. I have the odc440b coffee maker with de on elec prong. what am
    i to do

  26. I have the white odc440 and a 0dc450. One has the basket that never looks shinny white and has a dull finish along with the entire pot dies have the water problem. It is hard to read the masker numbers in the back of the pot. l20V-60hz 900w, cat.01,3l43459,lr92967,604de or 640de I cannot remove pot unless I get some help and won”t do that unless I know it is a recall pot. thanks for you attention in this matter. I have had 3 spacesaver pots. Please make the materials of the pot so that they clean better. Pot never looks perfectly clean to me. (I am fussy)

  27. I have the Black & Decker ODC440B, date code 842DE. Please tell me what I am to do with it?

  28. To whom it may concern,
I have just received the recall notice.
    I have the model ODC450.
The whole pot of hot coffee has on occasion overflowed.
What am I to do next???
    Please advise.
    Thank you

  29. I own a B&D Spacemaker Coffee Maker in white with a Cat Number ODC450 and a plug date code XO, what do I have to do to get the replacement basket ? In passing I have to say that this (new) design is nowhere near as user friendly as the original B&D Spacemaker, itis defionitely a step backward and I am surprised that B&D allowed its name to be used for such a ‘pretty-pretty` design which is so poor to the user.

  30. July 14,2009 I mailed the AC plug along with required paper work, in order to receive a replacement Spacemaker coffeemaker.
We have not received the product or any communication regarding the unit. Please advise. Thank you

  31. I have a ODC440B SPACEMAKER plug #637DE contact me for instructions THX

  32. I had the ODC450 for about 8 months and it just quit on me. I did like it, so I bought it again, seeing I have a small kitchen and under the cupboard worked for space. I registered the coffee maker, in which it stated i will be getting a new coffee maker, since teh basket didn’t fit my model. I received the instructions in the mail and stated to cut off the portion of the plug and mail it back along with tghe instructiondid so on 7/28. It said to give it 14 days and after 20, to call 866-668-4442. I call and all I get is an automatated message. It’s past 20 days and I’m upset I haven’t received my coffeemaker. Also, am I getting a 12 cup like I had and not an 8 cup? This recall is slow at best with giving little info. How can I call and actually speak with someone about my recall status, just like it says I can on my registration page?????

  33. We got our recall package on our coffeemaker today and I am a very UNHAPPY consumer. I don’t want a grill, juicer, toaster, iron, rotisserie, or bottle opener. In particular I don’t want a plastic & glass coffeemaker. I want a comparable coffeemaker to what I am returning. A Stainless Steel 8 cup with a stainless thermal carafe. What is the deal? Every other appliance both small & large in our kitchen is stainless. Please offer me an alternative to the list that is very similar to what we are returning.
    Sincerely,
    Sally Yacques

  34. well received my new basket very fast service lasted for 2 days then coffee maker s++t the bed. oh well thats life

  35. We received the recall notice on our B&D coffee maker today. The model # is ODC440 and the Date Code is 743DE. What must we do next to receive a new basket?

  36. I got my recall letter yesterday and I have an odc460 coffee maker with the date code 6 15 DE on electrical plug.
Please send me a free replacement brew Basket.

  38. I have a B&D SpaceMaker Coffee maker and when it first boiled over I found that the shut off system that allows you to pour a cup while it is still brewing is strong enough to push the pot away thus allowing hot water and grounds to spill over. This I feel is a bad design, If you can’t wait on it to finish There is in all probability a McDonald’s near by. anyway to solve this problem I disabled this feature.

  39. I have a odc450 which I cut the plug off of and sent it back to Black & Decker for a replacement. The odc440 I got stopped working( electronics burned out). I kept the 450 for parts and I put a new plug on it and I used a twistie tie to keep the basket in place on both coffee makers. The 440 model got put in the trash. I discovered that my under the cabinet light was causing the problem with the electronics and I fixed that with a single outlet surge suppresser. I would like to have a new basket so that I don’t have to use a twistie to hold the basket in.

  40. I received a letter on a recall for the brew basked on Cat. No. ODC440 and date code ending in DE. I purchased this coffeemaker in Delaware at the Black & Decker Store. I have returned it twice and they have replaced it for new one. Now I would like to know what I have to do to get a new brew basket. I went online but I see no place where to order a new one from Black & Decker

  41. I have a Black & Decker Coffee maker that 90% of the time overflows & spills coffee & grounds all over the counter. My Coffee maker is White ODC450 with 627DE on the metal part of power chord. There is also a lot of steam coming out of basket.

  42. While I was making coffee this morning the basket overflowed. In attempting to rectify the situation I dropped the carafe. I have taken the unit off the wall and found the model number is ODC325. Please let me know how I can replace the carafe and avoid any other overflow accidents.

  45. basket overflows ODC-450

  46. Responding to recall notice which I received in mail. I understand that the filter basket requires replacement. As a result of being scalded by the hot water/steam, I broke the 12 cup glass pot which also needs to be replaced. Please let me know when these items will be replaced. Thank you

  47. I failed to note the model number and the code on the power plug.

And yes to over spill more than once. No burn though!! Did
have hot water spilling over the sides and finally the maker
stopped working altogether!! Have not replaced. What ever
you can do would be appreciated, but the brewer must have been
    the problem!!

  53. Do not get all in a hurry to use your new basket..mine lasted only one week . Today I spent 5 minutes going thru the garbage can and bag of nasty grounds, eggs, and filth because the arm to the hole to release the coffee is nothing but a flimsy piece of plastic and it clips into a slot .When you go to remove it from the coffee pot, they put a new release for your hands..On pulling it out to throw away the grounds, the arm comes off and flies into the garbage or accross the room or in the floor on in the filthy dishes your sink..The problem is…BLACK AND DECKER SOLD US OUT TO CHINA…THIS PRODUCT WAS MADE IN CHINA.
I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ANOTHER BLACK AND DECKER MADE PRODUCT FOR MY HOME..I spent 5 mos wiping coffee and hot water up off the floor , drainboard and off of me..NOw the replacement basket is no better and comes apart…Hope the company President is ready for some harsh words and some legal paperwork coming his/her way..

  55. We too are having the same issue as others. However, I did not realize that there was a recall on the Black & Decker Spacemaker ODC 440B until I read about it in Consumer Reports last eve.
Today I tried 3 different times to use the suggested website to report my problem and the website was not working properly. Thus I had to wait, and wait by telephone until reaching a live person. Problem will be taken care of but I would have appreciated a working website for convenience.

  56. how do i get the parts we require to make this thing safe?

  57. have model odc440,it has boled over 2 times.

  58. Please send replacement brew basket for my black Black and Decker Spacemaker Coffeemaker which I purchased at KMart on 5/2/07. It is Model #ODC440B (12 cup)and is identical to the model pictured near the top of this page, and also on the top right picture on your recall letter. Mailing address is:

    1406 Hwy. 71 Apt #307
    International Falls MN 56649

  59. We too have the Black & Decker ODC440B that leaked and now has just quit on us. A new brew basket does nothing for us. After reading the above letters I don’t know if I want another Black & Decker. The last one we had lasted 10 years.

  60. I would apprecate it if someone would please tell me what in the heck to do with my coffeepot ODC450 827XO. I can’t believe that I have been trying to get some help since 8/l0/09 to no avail.
I have two older models – one on my boat and one on my motor home, and have been soooo happy with them both, one is over l2 years old and the other six. The new model is a mess. Black and Decker should be a shamed to even have their name on it……

  61. You can try the information located in the recall notice:

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Applica toll-free at (866) 668-4442 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at http://www.acprecall.com

  62. I have an under the counter Black & Decker Spacemaker 12-cup Coffeemaker, Model #ODC440B with the date code ending in DE. How do I apply for a brew basket??

Also, the paint on the plate under the carafe has worn off, because of the water dripping onto it and it being hot, and is very rusty and corroded.

  63. I have a B&D Spacemaker model SDC740B. The water accumulates in the basket and overflows, burning hands, arms, and makes a huge mess. This happens because the glass carafe doesnt ingage or set correctly with the lever arm of the basket which is designed to open and allow the hot coffee brew to flow into the carafe. My mother also has this smodel and has the exact same issue, she has recieved 2nd degree burns from this B&D appliance.
There should be a recall of this model too. there is obviously a design flaw that is a real burn hazzard.

  64. I have had at least eight (8) spacemaker coffe makers in the last 10 years.I have used them in my work office, at home , in our motorhome and just kept buying them, because I liked not having to pull out the unit to fill with water..I insisted about three years ago ,that my husband get me a new stainless steel thermal unit, thinking it would be so neat ..Within , a short time, the realization sat in that this had to be the worst coffee pot I had ever owned….I finally gave in to my husband’s idea, throw the thing away before you get severely burned..I couldn’t believe, after all the other ones I had owned, and three (3) of them still in usage, that this one was such a
“DUD”..Anyway, I did toss it, in the trash, where it belonged, so now what do I do..You have proof that I had one, since I received notifacation. that it was defective…But I have no cat. number… I do know it was model #ODC460 but I have no code # Please notify me of your decision..I have an alternate address since my purchase of this product.. Best Regards, Mary Hamilton

  65. I also have a Black and Decker Spacemaker coffee maker. While it is not currently the one that is being recalled, it certainly should be!!! This is our second one! We purchased our first one the first part of July and it nearly ruined our carpet leaking coffee all over the floor! Then we took it back, and got another identical to it. This one leaks everywhere! It leaks water out of the reservoir, and pretty much any place it can leak it does. This one doesn’t overflow from the basket, but it leaks everywhere else! I emailed the company, and they told me they would send me a replacement reservoir which I have yet to see. These coffee makers are not exactly cheap or easy to install! I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone, nor will I be purchasing another!!!

  66. We received the ODC460 model for a christmas present and have had the problem of it leaking from the basket 2out of 3 times a pot was brewed. Finally the brew basket overflowed so much that the coffee pot stoped working. I read about the recall and contacted the web site. They told me to fill out the recall paperwork and that they would send me a recall kit and all I had to do was follow the directions. Three weeks later the recall kit arrived and we cut off the plug part 2″ up the cord and mailed it back like they said. The kit told us that our new coffeepot would arrive in 2 to 3 weeks. That was almost a month ago and still no coffeepot nor any info from the company. How much longer until we get our coffeepot? Is the company going to start repaying me for the money that we’ve been having to put out to buy coffee.

  67. I purchased the SDC740B and by was that a mistake. I always wanted a spacesaver but since the first day I hated it. You fill up the water reserve and the water leaks from both sides. When the water is brewing the coffee pot does not fit up against the back properly and coffee runs over the top of the pot. the coffee grounds overflow due to the water not getting released fast enough. Now the water flows straight out the bottom all 12 cups all over the countertop what a mess. this model needs to be recalled as well.

  68. I have a ODC440 Coffee Maker that was purchased March 2009 and for some reason today it does not work. No power at all to the unit. It had power 6 hours earlier but NO coffee this morning. How do I get it replaced.

  69. I HAVE A UNDERCOUNTER BLACK AND DECKER SPACEMAKER. THE BASKET THAT HOLDS THE COFFEE FILTER IS BROKEN. THE RELEASE ON THE BASKET IS BROKEN HOW CAN I REPLACE IT WITHOUT BRUYING A NEW COFFEE MAKER? PLEASE!! REPLY BY MAIL MY ADRESS IS HUGH C WHITE 108 TYNE BLVD OLD HICKORY,TENN. 37138

  70. Need a replacement Brew Basket for my Spacemaker Coffeemaker.

  71. my coffeemaker leaks just like before and the new basket is a pain. It still sticks out from the coffeemaker and leaks water all over . Is the company going to do anything about it or do we as consumers just have to suck it up???????

  72. Hello this is my 2nd request
    1st being Aug 2009????
I have not heard anything from you people since I received the recall notice. What are you doing about this product???? I have since had to replace my coffee maker, but still no response from you. I would greatly apprciate some kind of answer to the problem. Why do you even both sending recall notice if you are not prepared to do anything to all of you dedicated customers???? I will not be purchasing another black & decker small appliance until I receive some kind of an answer.

  74. I have #ODC450, I can’t find the date code. I do have a problem with it spilling over on the counter and on to the hot plate, which is rusting and breaking up. I reported that at the time I reported the glass coffee pot broke and badly cut my finger. The person I spoke to didn’t seam to care about the hot plate problem. You did send me a new pot. I had to go to the hospital with the cut which cost me $50.00 for stitches, and a return to the urgent care 3 mos later with glass still in the finger. Why are you having your products made in China, don’t you know they want us all dead in America? Put our people back to work here in America. I would rather pay more for the product then to have the bad quality we are receiving from China, and the poisons they put in their products.

  75. I am writing to let you know that black Brewing Basket is not working it is still dripping (HOT) the Basket still comes out even with the new one you sent me.And I am not using it because of it, the steaming (HOT) WATER DRIPS down on your hand! registration#48025028,registration recall product ODC440B,registration date code:728DE,registered recall replacement:Black Brew Basket.Thank You, Deborah Abelovsky

  76. I hate to burst your bubble, but we are having the same problem with our B&D Spacemaker, but the model# is SDC750. Not only has the brew basket overflowed several times causing a hugh mess, but the morning 0f (2/7/10) the handle broke off the glass pot, almost causing a catastrophe over my kitchen. I didn’t realize there were any recalls until I went on line this morning. Not only will I need a new basket, but will also need a new pot. The plug number on my coffee pot is 852YA. Please contact me by e-mail and let me know what B&D is going to do. We bought this model back during the summer of 2009 at Target and have had nothing but problems with it. Thanks
