Most times an appliance will be exchanged after three repair attempts (by an authorized servicer) failed to resolve problems for the customer. The RETAILER takes responsibility for this if it occurs within the *Store Return Policy* period (varies 30 to 90 days).

After the store return period expires--a consumer may contact the manufacturer and try to get the customer service representative (CSR) supervisor to authorize an exchange by the retailer. In this case--the retailer is "credited" by the manufacturer for the appliance that is returned and "field scrapped". 

Some retailers will claim that they have a return policy that varies from a period of 30 to 90 days * BUT * the sales receipt clearly states that the store "reserves the right to deny / decline a returned item".

A little slick--so check the receipt carefully when purchasing big ticket items at your favorite big box retailer.
