I taking it that it is running with no one touching it? There are switches that are mounting around the lift motor (on most models that I work on), one of them turns on the motor when it raises up, it works off a cam on the motor shaft. It has to be making, somehow. I do not know if that brand uses a electronic board instead of switches.

We have an Italian GR 09 NI retractable vent hood that we installed in 2003. The motor is mounted centrally above the fan. It has a "deadman" switch that turns the hood off when the cover is closed and turns it on when the cover is opened. Lately it has started trying to run when we have the vent hood closed so the "off" switch is triggered. It operates the fan at a very slow speed and the motor makes an unusual growling noise. This lasts for about 30 seconds to a minute, then the motor stops. If we shut the fan off using the cover to close it, the growling noise happens.

Can anyone recommend a fix?
