We spoke with a representative at KitchenAid who says your current, 33 year old attachments should work just fine with any new KitchenAid mixer.  I hope this helps you.

Fixing the cord should be fairly simple, the speed control sounds more complicated. Please try to let us know what you decide and how it works out.

It needs a new electrical cord and now it only has 1 speed–FAST! It makes great whipping cream. Seriously, I can’t do anything with it now. I have almost all the attatchments that go with it and hate to get rid of it. Thanks for your reply.
