I'd call kitchenaid and ask them about it before you open it up. Is it out of warranty? If is still under warranty and you open it yourself, you will void the warranty.

Yes I was but it says Heavy Duity!!

Is it easy to fix? I am good with tools... I downloaded a manual, guess I will have to take a look. This is the first time I wish there was a belt.

That sounds like stripped gears to me. Were you kneading a very stiff dough?

I have a KitchenAid K5ss Stand Mixer that is having a problem.

I was mixing dough when all of a sudden the dough hook stopped moving but the motor kept running. I moved the dough around and the hook started moving again for a few seconds and stopped again.

Seems like something is slipping inside taking away from the power. Now the hook does not move at all but the motor runs but with a noise like there is no load on it at all.

Any ideas?
