It used to be " You get what you pay for" but not anymore.

We also had problems early on with a top-of-the-line wall oven, but the company came through on that one.

Viking Dishwasher -

When we designed our kitchen I researched products, based on Consumer Reports information, in the elements that a quality washer comprised of. Unfortunately, the Viking dishwashers were fairly new in the offering and little information was available other than noise level, and construction and was rates rather high. Well, after 3 years of ownership and lite usage the electrical panel needs replaced and is a 1 year warranty (not mentioned in their literature) item, and will cost you $550.00 to repair. Viking states if previous problems were reported and serviced they may consider pro-dating the warranty. However, Viking Customer Service stated "that we had 3 years of service without issue and the warranty had expired, they would not stand behind their product. With an initial purchase of appx. $1,200.00 would hope the product would have a better life. Additionally the noise level is much louder than one would hope, and a 80 minute full cycle. Don't plan a large party in anticipation this product will provide a quick turn-a-round.

Most of the High End Dishwashers are made by someone else. {Viking=Asko, Thermador=Bosch,} Really price is the big thing. Being a service tech, service is the biggest issue that most people ignore, and then they have problems finding someone that knows how to, or is trained,on there appliances . Bosch is the quietest, but pricey, Fisher-Paykel is a good machine, Miele I don't know a whole lot about {may not have service in your area} Kitchen aide is a good machine {basiclly Whirlpool} I personally would stay away from Viking products, have had a lot of service issues with them. Sub Zero/Wolf are pretty good products .Do not do LG service can not comment on them.I have not worked on a whole lot of Thermador. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately--high price does not equate with quality in dishwashers.

As a rule--the more expensive & exotic the dishwasher--the less likely a customer will be able to find an authorized (trained) servicer to repair it when the need arises.

It's safer to pick a brand that offers a *unique* or distinctive appearance--BUT is sold in quantity.

My suggestion would be LG Electronics.

It will be wise to check for availability of service in your area by zip code search at:

http://www.us.lgservice.com

Call the listed Authorized Service Centers and ask if they service LG dishwashers.

Today--nearly all brands of dishwashers will provide somewhere between 4 to 8 years of service.

Knowing this--most consumers will base their decision of which to buy---on whether the dishwasher will add APPEAL to a new or recently remodeled kitchen.

If the kitchen is older--some choose the less pricier brand / model (approx $400).
