Hi, I can’t decide if I should get a front loading washer or a top loader like I have now. The front loaders are so expensive, are they worth it? Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me.

Front loaders use less water and soap, but how long would it take to make up the difference in cost? But, using less water is good for the environment and that is worth some extra cost, I think.

I’ve wondered what happens if you need to open the door once the cycle has started. I mean, I always seem to find one more thing to add to the load just after it starts. Won’t water come pouring out everywhere?

Blair, HE washers use so little water, nothing comes spilling out if it’s opened mid-cycle. The clothes are sloshing wet, but that’s all. If you stop the machine to add clothes, it often addsa few minutes to the total wash time, but it is best not to add anything after the first few minutes.

I wionder if the clothes really come out clean with so little water? Does the soap rinse out completely?

Hi everyone, I’ve had a front loader for about a year now and my clothes are SO clean. They smell good and the whites are really white! I also find that I use VERY little detergent! Yes, the soap really seems to wash out fine. (maybe it’s because I only need to use a little bit!) It also holds a lot more clothes than my top loader did. Anyway, I’m very happy with the front loader!

First off, top load washers use 42-48 gallons of water for each load compared to 16-18 gallons of water for a front load. Bosch uses only 12 1/2 gallons Max. in theirs. No water DOES not spill onto the floor after you open the door. You have five minutes to re-open most of the Front loaders to put more laundry in them. You will see the difference in the cost in about 3-6 years depending on the cost of the top loader vs. the front loader. Remember you can only use HE soap in the front load washers or you will do damage to them.
