We rent, and I have no idea how old this dishwasher is, but it is certainly not new.

It could be due to food scraps trapped in the machine – turn it off and take all the bits out and give it a good clean. It could also be if you haven't rinsed dishes properly before putting them into the machine, for example bowls that have had milk in, this can produce a sour-ish smell. buy some dishwasher cleaner and give it a rinse with this on empty

More than likey you are having a problem with your drain. Have you noticed your sink draining slower latey? How long has D/W been installed? If it is a newer installlation they may not have installed drain hose correctly. New D/W's need to have what they call a “High Loop” in the drain hose.

Does anyone know why my dishwasher sometimes has a funny smell even after it has been run and emptied? Kinda sour-ish. Thanks.
