Should there ever be water in drip pan of refrigerator?

You're right, that's why you have a catch pan.  Some ice melts and it's there to protect the floor.  It should be just a small amount of water that evaporates.  Eight ounces seems like it might be a lot, maybe you just guessed high?

You could just watch how much ends up there over the next couple weeks and see.

Should there ever be water in drip pan of refrigerator?

Have side by side Whirlpool. Freezer on left. Has ice make.
There is a drip pan at bottom of freezer side.

Noticed today (never looked before) there was some water in the catch pan. I would say about 8 ounces at most.

Not sure if this is normal perhaps due to a defrost cycle or something (frost free refrigerator about 7 years old) and it will evaporate or if this is something to watch out for.

Ice maker working fine. Water dispenser working fine.
Never had a problem with it thus far.

Thanks in advance
