Dave,
Thanks for your answer. My racks have discolored slightly.
What's Annealing? Will that weaken the racks? I'm asking because I have already left them in a few times.

What will happen is they will discolor badly and not slide in or out properly. With the intense heat of self cleaning (700 – 750 degrees) you are technicallyannealing the steel. GE Profile ranges are the only ranges that have a special coating that allows you to keep them in the oven during the self cleaning process. I hope this helps.

Thanks, I've often wondered if they would lose strength and durability.

The racks will become discolored and / or lose the silver-chrome appearance from the intense heat.

Hi – I've read that I should remove the racks from my oven be ore running the self cleaning cycle. What would happen if I don't? – Thanks in advance.
