I think this depends on a variety of factors. For example, I love having extra storage under the cooktop. It makes it very convenient to have space there for common pots & pans, spices, etc. Wall ovens also eliminate all of the bending that you have to do with a range. For someone older or with back problems, that alone could be reason enough to use a wall oven.

You also don't have to worry about cleaning under wall ovens or cooktops, whereas with a range, you probably want to pull it out and clean under it occasionally. Especially if you have pets.

Style-wise, I think island cooktops with chimney hoods are incredibly classy. You just can't get the same effect with a kitchen range.

What the range has going for it is two things: price and space. If you need something cheap, a range is probably your best bet. Likewise, if you're dealing with limited space, range ovens take up less room than double wall ovens. You can save even more space by buying a range/microwave combo unit with an over-the-range microwave.

My recommendation : if you've got the money and the space, spring for the wall oven & cooktop! Easier to clean, beautiful, and more efficient cooking.

We are building a house and almost every kitchen magazine and kitchen image on Houzz has ranges while few of them have configurations with cooktop/double ovens.  If you have used both, what are your pro's & con's of both scenarios?
