Most times I tell people to either put charcoal briquttes or waded up newspaper inside, it will take care of most odors. I am not sure about the plastic smell.

I don't know about accelerating, but I think you should try leaving it open (unplugged) for at least a day -preferably outside- to air out.  Sounds pretty bad!  Good luck.

A new Avanti apartment size refrigerator was just installed in the cottage I am renting. It reeks of plastic smell.  My body already has major issues related to chemical toxicity. Does any one know of a way to excelerate the plastic off gasing process, or is this problem here to stay?  I have removdc all fresh produce from the frig (it's winter, maybe I'll use my van for produce storage) and put absolutely everything else in glass jars with tight lids. Thanks.
