It should have came with a seperate fitting, that screws to the valve. No I would not change the fitting. They just started this, this year.

Just bought a stainless model from Home Depot as a clearance item. As I read the install manual, it says to use a 3/8″ NPT fitting for the water inlet hookup. The problem is the threads on the inlet are a blue nylon material. Can you successfully tighten a brass NPT fitting when the receiving threads are nylon? Should I use another connection method?
It looks just like this, only with 1 inlet instead of 2:
