Kitchen Aide K45SS Needs Help

I recently discovered an older Kitchen Aide Model K45SS that belonged to my mother-in-law, and we apparently boxed it up and it went “somewhere” in all our stuff (did I mention we’re packrats).
The mixer I am pretty sure has not been operational since 1974+-. Okay, as an eternal optimist, I plugged it in. Zippo, Nada, not even a bad smell. (I did take time to clean the outside of it first).

Can anyone recommend a place to start? I am only moderately handy, and I have an employee who is somewhat advanced handy, but I don’t want to spend hours and hours on this if it’s avoidable.

I agree the older machines are better built. Isn’t everything? It is one heavy &*(*. If you’ve got some ideas, please let me know.

I’d like to fire it up and make some bread, cakes, etc. etc.
