It gives me chills to read the comments on the ge model wwse5240g1ww. Same problems happend to me. 13 months old (1 month out of warrenty) motor went. Technician gave me quote of 225 for replacement. I gave hime $50 cash and got a new motor. Bought a new washer 2 years later, same model same problems. Looking for a recommendation. Concerned over my safty with my wife.

This is my experience with the GE Model# WWSE5240G1WW washer.

I bought the machine on 11/21/07. To start out, the washer started to make squeaky noise which got louder as time went by.
Six months later, I had a service man send to my house after a talked wit GE’s rep. He told me the washer’s frame was damaged during delivery. He fixed it up and told me that it should be ok to use it now. Squeaky noises started again 2 months later and couple with that was jumping action from the washer, almost 1/2 of a foot off the floor and banged the hell out of my wall. The noises from the machine got so loud and it sometimes jumped violently agaisnt the wall. On 07/14/09, GE sent out another repairman to check out my washer. I told him 2 weeks before he came the tub inside came off during the dry spin cycle and I had to unplug the washer because it jumped all over the place and made loud noises. He also told me that the machine should be returned back to shop after the 1st inspection. Now my washer is out of warranty (only 1 year warranty from GE).

Oddly enough, my over 20 yrs old GE dryer is still working well eventhough its counterpart was 86ed 2 yrs ago.

I thought GE products were aewsome. Well, they don’t make it the way it used to be.

Currently, I have no washer and the clothes are piling up.

Stay clear of the Model# WWSE5240G1WW washer or better yet, the whole deal.

I noticed that Edgestar brand wine refrigerators aren’t included on this list. I am thinking of buying one online. The price is right, but I was hoping I’d find reviews or ratings here… Thoughts anyone?

Sears don’t manufacture nothing. They own the Kenmore brand name and contract with manufacturers, such as Electrolux, Whirlpool, LG, and …etc. Whirlpool and Electrolux own other name brands, like KitchenAide, Jenn-air, Maytag and Amana for example. Almost all of these products are made (manufactred) in Mexico, Canada, or Korea. The Bosch Dishwasher, I believe is made in North Carolina or South Carolina. So far, Not too many major appliances are made in China, but look closely at the small appliance packages, most of them are made in the Peoples Republic (commie) of China.

Based on my experiences I’d stay away from General Electric. Here is the rundown I’ve had on a Model# WWSE5240G1WW washer.

One month old, loose tub. Service Technician tightened.

Three months old, tub loose again. Service Technician replaced big nut.

Six months old. front cover won’t stay on. sheet metal bent from regular use.
Right front adjustable foot won’t adjust. Threew a block of wood under it
to level it. Service Technician said he’d order me a new foot. He didn’t. Service Technician accused me of modifing machine, I did not. He had never seen a machine like this one. It showed.

Was given a year’s extension on warranty.

Eleven months old, will not spin. Waited a week for service, Service Technician installed wrong motor will have correct delivered to my home, next week.

Back to the laundromat!
